Proposal #18a: Election Results for Affiliate Party Delegate Entitlements

DRAFT This is a draft proposal which has not yet been voted on by the committee.

Proposed by Rich Tomasso.

  • Problem: One of our goals is building a political party that elects Libertarians to public office. Yet the national party has not created specific incentives and recognition for those affiliates making gains in fulfilling the mission of a political party: to run candidates and ultimately win elections. We do count the the Presidential vote, but in many cases that is outside the control of the local affiliate, and also tends to favor the more populated states.
  • Solution: Rewarding those affiliates that are running effective campaigns with one of the few things we can, more influence at the Convention. Adjust the formula for delegate allocations for the regular convention to add delegate spaces to each affiliate based on the election results of their top of ticket candidate.
  • Benefits: Creates one more incentive to run bigger and smarter campaigns. Rewards states where Libertarians are making inroads.

1 comment:

  1. The affiliates are not the trained pets of the LNC to be administered, manipulated, rewarded or punished based on central policy. If the bylaws committee had any integrity it would have returned a proposal that resulted in equitable representation without the needs of mechanics for manipulation of the sovereignty of its affiliates.

    Disclaimer:
The Libertarian Party of Oregon has an unresolved legal dispute with the LNC Inc resulting from their hiring of the Oregon Republican Party’s Lawyer, then sponsoring his litigation against us to through signing a conflict of interest release in pursuing an agenda of replacing our state party leadership through a sponsored coup, initiated by officers of the LNC at the time and composed of current members of the bylaws committee. Further our delegation was not seated in 2012 due to a poisoned credentials committee which included several of the plaintiffs in the dispute and the Chairperson of the LNC at the time was willing to allow that committee to violate the bylaws and their authority under RROR at the Las Vegas Convention.
